McGrellis Appointed New Derry Manager

Up one level

Derry Camogie has selected Danny McGrillis as their manager for the 2009 season. McGrillis has previously worked with Glen, Slaughtneil and Lavey with whom he reached the 2006 Senior Championship final only to be beaten by 1 point by rivals Castledawson. “I am honoured to be asked to take Derry senior camogie team and I’m really looking forward to the challenge. Of course there’ll be pressure to win and a bigger expectation to stay on top but it’s healthy as these girls are ultimately the best in the county.” “My first goal is to maintain our Intermediate League status and then when the team and panel have been set we’ll try and go one better than last year,” said McGrillis. McGrillis made the county open to trails meaning more teams had the opportunity to send their best players. This is a move which McGrillis hopes will benefit the county on a long term basis: “Although we have a lot of the panel from last year available to us there are a couple of new comers so the first step is to get them all thinking and playing as a team.” “The girls are all coming from different clubs so the more experienced players will have to help them fit into and make them feel welcome. At the same time these new players bring something different to the panel which can only benefit the team,” McGrillis added.
