Oak Leaf camogs flourish in Ulster U14 Final
The game, played in perfect conditions in Lavey, was certainly very tight in the first half with Derry scoring 0-1 to Antrim’s no score, courtesy of Grainne McNicholl. Derry were determined to make up for the many missed chances in the first half and the introduction of Karen Kielt provided Derry with that much needed impetus to capitalise on their possession. Karen put over 3 lovely points to lift Derry while goals from Aimee Kelly and Grainne McNicholl and a point from Leanne McCrystal ensured that Ulster title would not be heading to Antrim.
The Derry defence were unrelenting throughout, with Grace Kelly particularly impressive at centre half back, while the midfield pairing of Dania Donnelly and Clare Bateson were in great form. Derry can once again celebrate the fruits of hard work with a very skilful squad of players and take comfort that the future of the game in the county is rosy.
Many congratulations to the management team of Shauneen Henry, Caroline Wilson, Michelle Friel, Maeve McGillian and Eimear McKenna for their commitment and leadership and to every player involved in this squad.
