Derry saw off a strong Down side
on Saturday in Ballycran, maintaining their winning ways. This was a tight encounter but the Derry camogs were up to the task and showed that they
will not relinquish their All-Ireland crown easily.
Karen Kielt was first to score with a lovely point after 3 minutes but Derry were rattled 5 minutes later when Down found the
back of the net. This sparked Derry into action, putting together some lovely passages
of play. Derry
went in 1-5 to 1-2 ahead at half time.
Derry looked very good after the
break, notching up another 8 points. The
defence withstood some pressure from Down later in the half, eventually
conceding a couple of goals. However,
overall, this was a very impressive display from a Derry
side with a great mix of last year’s crop and new faces who are now working
together very effectively.
The Under 16s now travel to Waterford
this Saturday (19th April), the side who lost to Derry
in last year’s epic All-Ireland Final replay.
