Derry minor and junior camogs in All-Ireland final bids
The Derry Junior team are attempting to reach their second successive All-Ireland final, and go one better to lift the title, under the guidance of managers Padraig and Susan O’Mhianáin. They take on Antrim this Sunday, in a rematch of the Ulster Junior semi-final, which Derry won on their way to retaining their Ulster title. Antrim were missing their key player Jane Adams on that occasion. The Saffron side will be keen to avenge this defeat and Derry will know to be on their guard. Derry will look to their captain Claire Doherty, Grainne McGoldrick and Katie McAuley to lead the way although there will be no shortage of leaders in this experienced side.
Derry minor manager Donna Mc Closkey is hoping to guide Derry U16 Camog’s to their second All Ireland final in two years. The 2006 winners take on Kildare in the semi-final on Sunday 29th July at a venue to be confirmed by Croke Park .Derry qualified top of their Group following win’s over Tyrone, Meath, West Meath and last year’s beaten finalist, Armagh, but the toughest test was their three point victory over fellow Ulster team Down. Group runners-up Down will face Waterford in the other Semi-final. Derry have a strong and experienced panel with no less than ten players who were in last years all-Ireland winning side. This will give them the tag of favourite but they will not go into the game taken anything for granted.
