No joy for Derry at the All-Stars

Despite reaching the final of both the National League and the All-Ireland Junior Championship, and winning the Ulster Championship, neither of Derry’s two nominees, Katie McAuley and Grainne McGoldrick, were awarded an All-Star for 2006. Dublin’s Louise O’Hara was the only player from the Junior ranks to be honoured. This is the first year since the Allstars began that the Junior Final runners-up have not been recognised, with Down’s Mairin McAleenan and Clare’s Catherine O’Loughlin being honoured in 2004 and 2005 respectively. None of this year’s awards made their way to Ulster. It would seem that the only way to join them is to beat them ...
